Do I need a Website for my Photography Business?

The short answer… Yes!

This is going to be short and sweet. Honestly, if you plan on running a successful photography business, you won’t need an explanation for any of this. It’s a no brainer. But if you need reasons to have a website, here are 3 of the biggest reasons you need a website:

1. You Do NOT Own Your Social Media Pages

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., they can all shut you down at any time. It’s in the terms of service you agreed to when you signed up. I know, no one reads those, but you really should.

2. A Website Looks More Professional

You want people to treat you with respect and pay you for being an expert in your field. But having your business only listed on social media doesn’t offer much credibility.

3. A Website Helps People Find You Through Google

I’m sure you’ve heard of SEO? It’s one of the most important and FREE things that can help your business be seen by everyone. You cannot control your SEO on social media, but on a website you can target your exact ideal clients with a few keywords.

So how do you make a website?

Well, this could be a whole other blog post in and of itself! But Let’s talk about the main factors…

Who should you use? I personally use Showit for my website and love it! This platform allows you complete design freedom, but does have a learning curve. When I first began my photography business, I had my website through Photobiz. While it doesn’t offer as much creative freedom as Showit does, it’s extremely user friendly and you can literally build a website from scratch in a day.

What should I have on my website? You should have at least 5 pages on your website: 1. Home Page, 2. About Page, 3. Gallery Page, 4. Information Page, 5. Contact Page. Make sure your website tells people who you serve, where you’re located, what your work looks like, and how they can contact you to book.

Taking this small step with your business will make a huge difference in your client experience. Don’t be afraid to start small. Build a site with all the necessities, and as you grow, you can grow your website. And don’t forget to start holding back a little money in your business budget to hire a professional website designer when you’re ready to take that next big step! It’ll be so worth it when you do!
