The Traveling Photographers: Our Oregon Vacation
We are truly blessed to have family scattered all over the country! It gives us the opportunity to visit so many places that we may not otherwise visit. This past week we jumped on a plane and headed to Oregon to see my brother and his family! Our first stop on our adventure was Bend, Oregon. I would totally live here!!! This little town is seriously the cutest and the fall colors here are out of this world!! We had such a great time walking around Drake Park, eating at the brewery and sippin’ on fruit smoothies while watching the sun go down.
After our visit in Bend, it was time to make our way to Albany where my family lives! The thing about Oregon, it’s covered in mountains… so needless to say we sound some snow while we were driving! Welcome to Mt. Bachelor y’all! We even found a lava field! (that’s the photo with Stephen in it) From 60 degrees to 34 degrees, quite a change huh?!
On our last day we headed out to Newport to see the beach! Well, we saw the beach but we choose to stay a little higher about sea level to stay warm and visited two of the eleven lighthouses along the coast. First stop was Yaquina Bay Lighthouse! This adorable lighthouse unfortunately was not able to perform it’s duties for very long. It was only in commission for about 3 years before they realized it was ineffective as it was too far inland. So a few years later they built a second one, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, just 3 miles north. Yaquina Head is still in use today and has the most amazing stories to tell! We made it just in time for the last tour of the day and were able to climb all the way to the top! The tallest lighthouse in Oregon, it stands 93 feet tall and is 73 feet above sea level, allowing it to be seen 20 miles out to sea!
