Our Personal Branding Journey with LYD
This blog has been one I’ve been so excited to share with you for a while! As we all know, this year has been challenging, and has forced us to reexamine our business. One of the biggest things we discussed was whether or not to finally create a true personal brand story for our business.
Back in May, I told Stephen I don’t feel like my brand or website represents me or our photographic experience! We knew it was time for a change, but I just wasn’t sure how to make it all happen! I’m a photographer, not a designer. It was time to let go. Time to invest in my business and let someone else, someone more knowledgeable, take the reins!
For the last few years we’ve thought about hiring a professional designer, but just kept making excuses not to. Welp, insert a global pandemic and months of no work, so we decided to take a leap of faith and use this time to finally have our very own personal brand and custom website professionally created!
Insert Launch Your Daydream!
My search for the perfect designer started with Launch Your Daydream by Britt and Kelsey. They were actually mentioned in several FB conversations and all had good things to say about them. I pull up their website and my first impression is, “Wow! This is bold! This is different!” But I’ll be honest, at first glance I wasn’t super into it. It’s a beautiful website, but not really my style (such bold color), and I questioned whether they would be a good fit. Then I scrolled through, and that’s when I saw it, the Backstreet Boys references… Um, “Bye, Bye, Bye” says this NSYNC lover!
So I moved on to the next site, and the next, and these were speaking much more to my style. As I’m going through the 3rd site however, I realize I found myself comparing them to Britt and Kelsey’s site! How can this be? Even though these sites were more like what I was looking for, there was something missing. After looking at all the other sites, I decided to go back to Britt and Kelsey’s site.
As I scroll through it, I’m starting to feel more and more of a connection. I love the process they offer and the investment is where I was looking to be. Besides, they both have fun colored hair, (I’ve always wanted blue hair) and I realize they are speaking to me! Everything I’m feeling about their site is exactly what I want my visitors to feel!
Then I decided to take their quiz. Y’all, I have never received a sign from God that clear in my life! The answer was, verbatim, everything I’d been saying this whole time. DONE. I filled out their inquiry form, we connected the next day and I hired them that night!
The Personal Brand Process
Our journey began with Kelsey! We needed to learn who we are, who our ideal clients are and what the ultimate message we wanted our brand and website to convey. During our initial consultation, I warned Britt and Kelsey that I would probably be a difficult client! I told them everything I wanted for our brand or site was in my head, but I had absolutely no idea how to convey what I wanted in word form for them! I would soon find out, I had nothing to fear!
We started with a brand questionnaire to help determine our mission statement, vision, values, differentiators, and dream client persona. Then we created an inspiration board on Pinterest, that ultimately led to our brand new color palette! Next came the part where we create our logo design and graphics. Kelsey listened to every single word of criticism and praise during this process and created the most beautiful logos and pattern for us!
A few weeks after we completed our entire brand board, we received an email from Brit… Our first mock up of our website was ready to view! Let me tell you, waiting for Stephen to get home that day so we could see it together was one of the longest days of my life!! You best believe I had the email up and ready the moment he walked in the door!
O.M.G. Y’all!! As we sat and watched the video of our website preview, we were absolutely speechless!! IT WAS PERFECT!!!! We were seriously freaking out over how every single detail was exactly how we wanted it! After a few more tweaks over the next few weeks, and the completion of our blog migration, we were finally ready to show our new brand to the world!
It’s Launch Day!!!
October 1st, 2020, Launch Day… BEST. DAY. EVER.
Joyful, colorful, classic yet modern, welcoming, upscale, and fun… These were the brand goals that we came up with during our time with Kelsey. I mean, they nailed it y’all!! From the fun, bright colors, to the hand drawn rose designs and watercolor accents, everything tells a little bit of our story and personality. We couldn’t be happier! Our experience with Britt and Kelsey is one we will never forget. And now that we have a brand new story to tell, we can’t wait to see where our journey takes us!
